BUILDER STORY // MARIA BITNER

Van Lifer, DIY Builder, Digital Nomad, Climber.

I’m Maria, and I’ve been living on the road for the last 7 years, and I can’t imagine life any other way. I bought a 1991 Chevy shortie school bus in 2017 without any knowledge of construction, electrical, plumbing, auto mechanics, or anything else one might need to convert it into a Skoolie. But I learned what I could and lived in my converted Skoolie for 3 years. After getting hooked on this lifestyle, I traded in the bus for my first van: a 2016 Ford Transit. I converted it van over quarantine and set off on the road again as soon as it was done.

It was in this van that I grew into myself. I went from working seasonal retail and restaurant jobs to becoming my own boss doing freelance web design and social media work. I went from solo travel to exploring life with my partner. I learned to trad and multi-pitch rock climb, surf, and mountain bike – all while living in that van. These activities became my passions and the reason I live on the road in the first place. I travel based on climbing seasons, moving with my climbing community to the next iconic destination on the list.

BUILDER STORY // SCENIC VANS

Scenic Vans crafts unforgettable vanlife adventures with custom rentals.

Kevin and Emily Fannan’s journey into vanlife began with a transformative trip to New Zealand in 2018, where they rented a campervan and embarked on an unforgettable adventure. Inspired by their experience, they purchased their own campervan, named “Van-Gelica,” and set off on a cross-country journey across the United States. Now, with the impending arrival of their first child, they’ve turned their passion for vanlife into Scenic Vans, offering custom van rentals and build services to fellow adventurers.

Committed to craftsmanship and attention to detail, Scenic Vans offers a range of custom build services tailored to each customer’s needs. From window and flare installations to diesel heaters and electrical upgrades, they ensure each vehicle is built to the highest standards. As part of their dedication to quality, Scenic Vans uses furniture components from Veritas Vans in their rental and custom build vans, cementing their commitment to excellence in van building.
